Is There Really a Difference? Breaking Down the AM vs PM Skin Care Routine!

Why AM and PM routine?

The main differences between the two routines lie in their focus and goals. The AM routine prioritizes protection from environmental damage and hydration to support the skin throughout the day, while the PM routine focuses on repair, rejuvenation, and replenishment of the skin's barrier function overnight. Additionally, certain active ingredients like retinoids are typically used in the evening due to their potential photosensitivity and ability to enhance cell turnover while the skin is at rest. Overall, both routines work together to maintain healthy, radiant skin.

Morning (AM) Skincare Routine:

   - Cleansing: A gentle cleanser to remove any sweat, oil, or impurities that accumulated overnight. I will go with washing face with water and using Micellar water one cotton round to clean skin.

 - Exfoliating facial pads: daily facial pads designed to gently remove dead skin cells to visibly even skin tone, for smoother radiant-looking skin. There is no real skin peeling.

- Toner: To balance the skin's pH and prepare it for subsequent products.

- Serum: Face serums are lightweight, fast-absorbing formulations packed with potent active ingredients such as antioxidants, peptides, hyaluronic acid, and vitamins. They are formulated to address various skincare concerns such as hydration, brightening, firming, and combating signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone.

 - Eye serum: Eye serums are specially formulated to address the unique concerns of the delicate skin around the eyes, such as puffiness, dark circles, fine lines, and crow's feet. They typically contain ingredients like caffeine, peptides, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid to hydrate, depuff, brighten, and smooth the under-eye area.

- Hydration: Lightweight moisturizer and eye cream to hydrate and prepare the skin for the day ahead.

   - Sun Protection: Application of broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to protect the skin from UV damage and premature aging.

   - Antioxidants: Products containing antioxidants like Vitamin C to protect against environmental stressors and free radicals.

   - Makeup Application (if applicable): Check the previous blog for details.

Evening (PM) Skincare Routine:

- Double Cleansing: Start with an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup, sunscreen, and excess oil(makeup melting balm), followed by a water-based cleanser (face wash) to deeply cleanse the skin.

 - Masks (not every night) and skin care devices

- Toner: To balance the skin's pH and prepare it for subsequent products.

- Targeted Treatments: Application of serums or treatments containing active ingredients like retinoids, peptides, or exfoliants to address specific skin concerns such as aging, acne, or hyperpigmentation.

Facial oils: Improve the overall health and appearance of your skin, providing hydration, nourishment, protection for a radiant complexion.

   - Moisturization: Use a richer moisturizer or night cream to replenish hydration and support the skin's overnight repair process.

   - Eye Cream: Application of a specialized eye cream to hydrate and target concerns like dark circles or fine lines around the eyes.

   - Lip Care: Use a hydrating lip balm or treatment to nourish and repair the delicate skin on the lips.
